Dato Turashvili

Dato Turashvili was born on May 10, 1966 in Tbilisi. He graduated from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, the faculty of philology. In addition, he studied the history of literature, cinema and art at Tbilisi and later London and Madrid Universities and film dramaturgy at Erlom Akhvlediani Workshop. He participated actively in students’ movement of 1980s as a member of university press-club. He was one of the leaders of the student protest action taking place at Davit Gareja monastery complex. During recent years, alongside writing, he delivered lectures at Tbilisi State University, faculty of humanities. His first novel was published in 1988. The most famous play is “Jeans Generation”. It was first performed on stage in 2001.

Besides scripts, he writes novels, short stories and plays. Dato Turashvili has published about 16 books in Georgia. His works are translated into seven languages and published in different periodical editions of various countries. His novel “Jeans Generation” has already been published in five European countries. He is the author of Georgian best-sellers and has participated in Alpinists’ expedition in the mountains of the Caucasus, Andes and Himalayas. Furthermore, he is the author of scientific-research letters in literary criticism and historiography. He has translated both prosaic and poetic texts from Russian, Spanish and English languages.
