Zaal Samadashvili

Fiction Writer, Essayist

Zaal Samadashvili was born on October 3, 1953 in Tbilisi. He graduated from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, the faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics. His first short story “Grand-Ma has been Wounded” was published in the journal “Tsiskari” (Matins) in 1983. He is the scriptwriter of the feature film “Temo”. In addition, he has written a script for short-length film “Garsevan”. In 2007, with the support of Tbilisi City Council he founded Gala (literary prize). In 1989-1994, he worked at the editorial department of the newspapers “Mamuli” (Home Country) and “Komagi”. Simultaneously, he was an editor-in-chief of the journal “XX Saukune” (XX Century). In 2005-2007, he was a head teacher of the secondary school 53. In 2006, he has been a member of Tbilisi City Council. In 2008-2012, he was a chairman of the Tbilisi City Council.
